Oh, Auntie MJ. This is why you will always be my favorite. Well, not this, but you get what I mean. (Don’t tell John Green I said Auntie MJ was my favorite!!)
THE TRUTH REVEALED. Dear Internet. I apologize for this. But I have agreed to come clean about certain conversations between John Green and myself.
Yay!! Thanks, Dr. Cranquis!!
WANT TO BE A PA…
Hi Dr. Cranquis. I’m studying to become a Physicians Assistant, well, I’m trying to. I’m only a sophmore in college right now, going to junior college and the advisors can’t tell me anything about what majors I should be looking at or what I should be preparing and planning to do. Can you help point me in the right direction? What majors and degrees should I be planning to get? What kind of work experience can I get in the medical field or at a hospital now to get ahead? Thanks for any advice, and thanks for being made of so much awesome. (:
Greetings! Thanks for your question. I’m probably not the BEST source of info on “How to become the butt-kickingest PA ever”, since (as I’ve mentioned before), I didn’t even know about the entire concept of Physician’s Assistant until after I was way into medical school — but if I HAD known about it, I just might’ve decided to take that route instead of the MD one! I think the job of PA is pretty cool, and most PA’s I know are awesome.
Well, first of all, here’s everything I’ve written about PA’s before. You might also benefit from looking over my prior posts about strengthening your med-school (or other healthcare grad program) application — although a lot of those posts are written at pre-med students, most of the info about volunteering and undergrad majors applies to pre-PA students as well!
Last of all, you’ve probably already checked out the American Association of Physician Assistants, but if not, their page on Becoming a PA is a good summary — and the rest of their website has good info.
Good luck to you! :)
